The arc
From your first adavu to the stage
Students typically spend six to eight years progressing through these phases. Movement between levels is by readiness, not age or tenure.
011–2 years
Beginner
Aramandi, adavus, hasta mudras, simple abhinaya.
022–3 years
Intermediate
Pushpanjali, jathis, alarippu, tillana, raga & tala.
033+ years
Advanced
Varnam, padam, choreography, solo performance preparation.

My daughter and I have been learning with our Guru Smt. Sridevi Thyagarajan for about a year now. She is very meticulous and methodical in her way to teaching. She provides a very warm and positive encouragement during our classes. She is easily approachable and very friendly to work with.
My daughter loves learning from her and she makes sure she teaches us not just the dance but also the theory and concepts behind it which gives a strong foundation and intensifies our fundamentals and enforces strict discipline in classes.
Sridevi takes time to choose the songs, choreograph the steps and perfect each dance and is very open with communications also.
By herself, she is an amazing dancer and has a lot of respect and passion for Bharathanatyam.
